Opelousas City Court
Opelousas City Court is the judicial branch of government for the City of Opelousas and Ward One of St. Landry Parish. The court presides over Civil, Criminal, Traffic, and Juvenile cases. Civil claims include personal injury, contract, and landlord-tenant cases up to $25,000. It also has criminal jurisdiction over misdemeanors that are offenses generally punishable by a fine of not more than $500 and/or a jail term of not more than six months. The Court administers the Keeping It REAL (Responsible Education About Life) Program for first-time youth offenders ages 13-15.

Southwest Center for Rural Initiatives- SU Ag Center
The mission of the Southwest Center for Rural Initiatives (SCRI) is to improve the socioeconomic well-being of citizens in rural communities within a ten-parish region of Southwest Louisiana. The Center performs functions consistent with the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center’s (SUAREC) mission to conduct basic and applied research and disseminate information to the citizens of Louisiana in a manner that is useful in addressing their scientific, technological, social, economic, and cultural needs.
Specifically, the Center will provide leadership that assures focused, applied rural development research and community outreach; increase awareness and understanding of rural development conditions, issues, strategies, and policies; and, disseminate information to rural community stakeholders and policy-makers necessitating public policy decision-making.

Project HOPE
Project HOPE (Helping One another Push for Excellence) is a community youth initiative serving northern St. Landry Parish with offices in Palmetto, Louisiana. Project HOPE is operated by the New Life Church of God and has been in existence since 1997 and has a social services contract with Acadiana Area Human Services District to provide prevention education to 1,500 school-aged students each year. We service seven schools with the evidence-based curricula including Life Skills Training and Kids Don’t Gamble…Wanna Bet. In addition to the school component, Project HOPE serves the youth of northern St. Landry Parish by offering after-school and summer youth programming throughout the school year and summer.
